CORSHAM ladies suffered their first defeat of the season in Wessex Division One as they went down 4-1 to a strong West Wilts side.

The game was fast and furious from the start, with Corsham opening the scoring when Mel Bessell latched onto Laura Mizen’s cross to round the keeper.

This seemed to spur Wilts on and they soon equalised.

Three quickfire goals from the visitors then sent them into half-time 4-1 to the good but the second half was a much tighter affair, with Corsham bringing on keeper Elise Mantay for her first ever game and an outstanding performance earned her the player of the match prize.

A late goal dashed Corsham 2nd’s hopes of victory as Marlborough 3rd triumphed 3-2.

Corsham continued to build on skills developed in training and by the end of the first half both teams had scored twice, with the pace upping in the second half.

For most of the game it looked as if the contest would end in a draw but Marlborough snatched the win with their third goal in the dying minutes.

Corsham 3rd were beaten 3-1 when they took on Knowle 2nd.

After enjoying most of the possession, Corsham were very disappointed with the final outcome.

The team worked well as a unit and also tried out some of Maria Frankcom’s coaching skills, which served them to great effect.

Corsham men were thrashed 9-0 by Bath Buccs F, although they showed some glimmers of hope against a skilful opponent.

Barry Burton made some timely saves to keep the deficit to single figures and young Jacob Task was not put off by the size and age of the opposition and showed determination and skill.
