WEST Wilts men’s first team were left frustrated by a series of squandered chances as they went down 4-1 at home to Robinsons A.

The hosts started slowly and were punished early in the game when Robinsons scored a spectacular short corner.

This was the wake-up call Wilts needed and they began to dominate proceedings but when trying to find the equaliser, they were caught out on the counter attack and Robinsons extended their lead going into half-time after a careless mistake.

Wilts started the second half positively, seeking to pull back the deficit, but were caught on the counter again and were unlucky to concede a third goal.

A converted short corner routine gave Wilts hope, however, the damage had been done and Robinsons finished the game with a fourth goal from a tight angle.

There was much better news for West Wilts ladies’ first team as they saw off visiting Devizes 6-3.

Despite not being on full form, Kayleigh Pothecary held the team together with tactical orders from the back, creating well-worked play between the Wilts line-up.

Lizzie Robson transferred the ball to Hetty Thompson and a short through pass allowed Jess McLean to open the scoring with a shot into the bottom left corner.

Wilts swiftly scored their second goal when Sharna Crowe linked up with Livie Evans with a quick one-two, enabling the latter to take the ball around her opponent and send a strike into the net.

By half-time, Wilts had taken the score to 3-0 thanks to short corner injected precisely by Millie Cornish, with Evans accurately hitting the ball out of reach of the Devizes keeper.

Wilts continued to go hard for more goals in the second half and the ball was fed through to Hannah Cornish on the break, who hit the ball with pace to the centre of the Devizes D, where Sharna Crowe deflected home to make the score 4-0.

Through a lack concentration, Wilts found themselves on the back foot and a determined Devizes team clawed the score back to 4-3.

This was a wake-up call to Wilts and McLean was able to calm their nerves when she bagged her second goal of the game.

The hosts continued to push in the closing minutes and were rewarded with numerous short corners, with the final one of the match seeing Cornish net her first goal of the season.

West Wilts' third team made it a twin win for the ladies as they claimed a 2-1 success at their Frome counterparts.

Wilts were caught napping at the beginning of the match and were a goal down from Frome’s first attack.

The visitors soon settled as Odi Evans took control of the defence, clearing the ball straight to Nic Ford and Sally Ford, with the latter able to net the equaliser.

Holly Barry and Colette Henshaw dominated the midfield in the second half, creating opportunities for Lucy Beavan and Ellie Brown going forward.

However, it was Elaine Shepherd who netted the winner when she took advantage of ball going across the attacking circle, to score past the Frome keeper.
