West Wilts Ladies 1, Norton Down Ladies 2
ANOTHER slow start for Wilts enabled Norton to take an early lead and eventually leave with all three points.
With pressure mounting in the circle, Norton’s first goal came from a short corner.
For West Wilts Hannah Cornish and Amanda Robson made some good runs in the centre and a push forward resulted in a penalty corner. Although a goal was scored from a confident strike from Hannah Cornish, its height meant it was disallowed.
Fortunes then turned back to Norton and their continued pressure resulted in several penalty corners, and a subsequent conversion took their lead to 2-0. West Wilts pulled a goal back in the second half when Laura Allsop and Helen Culverhouse combined to set up Fiona Pridham who collected the ball at the top of the circle and skilfully dribbled round the keeper and neatly into the goal.
West Wilts Mixed 6, Frys Mixed 0
WEST Wilts reached the third round of the Bristol Mixed Cup after winning this slightly one-sided match.
Netty Pellow opened the scoring from a penalty corner and further goals came from Pellow, Nick Hutchings, Helen Culverhouse (2) and Anji Whittamore.
West Wilts Ladies 3rds 0, Devizes 3rds 2
WEST Wilts battled hard against a solid Devizes side, but once again fail to convert possession into goals, despite some stylish play.
Early on, Kayleigh Pothecary demonstrated her command of the D clearing well from a sharp speculative shot. Suzi Agate ably directed the midfield, releasing Emily Church for a good run on goal, with Elizabeth Robson providing sterling defensive work, stopping anything that came her way. Devizes took the lead following a series of short corners after an awkward rebound put the defence out of position.
Late in the game, a Devizes short corner was cracked hard into Annabel Harrild’s ankle at a distance of six inches, and she had to be carried off with her foot immobilised.
Following a re-start bully, Devizes took advantage, and managed to score another from a scrappy goalmouth scramble.
Gillingham 6, West Wilts Badgers (7ths) 0
WITH enforced changes to the team due to unavailability and squad rotation, Wilts were always going to be under pressure against a team they had already lost to earlier in the season.
Debutants Dale Bard at centre forward and Liam Copp in midfield gave 100 per cent.
WEST Wilts under 13s and under 11s took part in a seven-a-side tournament at Marlborough on Sunday.
The under 13s finished a respectable fourth out of seven teams after losing to North Wilts and Marlborough and beating Marlborough 2nds 2-1 and Swindon 1-0.
The under 11s drew 0-0 against North Wilts, lost to Devizes and Marlborough and beat Wootton Bassett 2-0.
Coach Rich Robson was more than happy with the performance of this newly formed team and commented on how much they had improved during the tournament.
