Robson sparks scoring spree

West Wilts Ladies 8, City of Bath 3
WEST Wilts produced an excellent second half performance to overwhelm a City
of Bath team, playing with only 10 men.
The West Wilts defence faced some early attacks but Nicola Yalland and Jess
McLean worked as a unit on the left channel to pick up some long-balls from
City and push play back out to the midfield.
After some scrappy play in midfield, Amanda Robson opened the scoring for
West Wilts after a pick up just inside the edge of the circle and a strong
swipe from a lifted rebound took the ball cleanly past the goalkeeper.
A few minutes later another press on the Bath defence resulted in a second
Wilts goal from Jess McLean as she got the last touch on a goal line
scramble.
City of Bath responded quickly as they made a break from midfield and with
the Wilts defence on the back foot they scored to take the half-time score
to 2-1.
West Wilts knew they had to improve their game ten-fold in the second half
and make use of their extra player. Jo Pothecary and Amanda Robson worked
tirelessly in midfield, taking play around the opposition and constructing
some good wide passing.
The team then started to gel and work together which resulted in a further
five goals all scored in open play, from Jess McLean, Fiona Pridham (3),
Laura Allsop and Helen Culverhouse.
Despite some close shots from penalty corners and some close threats from
Fiona Pridham, Wilts seemed to have peaked. Despite trailing 7-1 City of
Bath did not given up and pressure from them coupled with some poor
defending from Wilts resulted in two late goals, leaving the final score
standing at 7-3.
