IT was a close call in a rather unsettled performance, but West Wilts came away with all three points to retain their position at the top of the league.
Short of a couple of key players, Wilts took to the pitch a little out of sorts with players out of position.
Amanda Robson and Jo Pothecary controlled the centre midfield and looked to take the ball wide, but Wick were slightly quicker off the mark and were able get in front of the Wilts play and block their passes.
Although Wilts looked to pick up the lost balls quickly, Wick's quick interceptions resulted in some panicked passing which failed to give Wilts the controlled possession required to take play into the Wick's defensive area.
As the half-time whistle drew closer Wilts finally began to settle down and Fiona Pridham was unlucky not to score from a strong cross that went just wide. But after a surge towards goal, a quick ball in from the right enabled a well-positioned Pridham to steer the ball into the net.
Going out to the second half Wilts knew they had work to do to keep control of the game. As the midfield line were put under immediate pressure from Wick, Amanda Robson made a series of well-timed jab tackles to regain possession and feed the ball up to the waiting forward line.
Up front Helen Culverhouse made some great cross runs towards goal and provided some great scoring opportunities from where Jo Pothecary and George Garrity were unlucky not to score.
Despite several short corners Wilts were unable score again but were happy to walk away with a win.
