Ellie’s double keeps record intact

Chippenham Ladies 2, Mendip Ladies 0

CHIPPENHAM, who secured the league title last weekend with two goals from skipper Julie Lodge, maintained their 100 per cent winning record with this home win over the second in the table side.

Fine linking play between forwards Ali Trigg, Kelly Johnson and Emily Stevens created several chances for Chippenham, but the Mendip defence kept them out.

The deadlock was broken when Nan Roberts made a great run down the right midfield and fed the ball into the circle for Ellie Copeland to score.

Chippenham also hit the post twice.

Mendip had some good runs at the Chippenham defence but were met with some solid defending from Kate Roberts, Carolyn Cameron, Marie Frankcom and Hilary McNeill, who easily broke up the attacks.

In the second half, Chippenham's Jules Mainwaring and Leigh Page stepped up the pace, relentlessly feeding the ball from the right to give the home side even more chances to extend their lead. But the Mendip goalkeeper was on top form and continually denied Chippenham.

Roberts worked tirelessly up front for Chippenham and it was her pass to Copeland which brought about the goal to seal the match for the home side.

Copeland placed the ball in the top left side of the post for an outstanding goal.
