Youngsters rise to the challenge
Swindon B 3, West Wilts E 2
THE West Wilts younger players rose admirably to the challenge of a visit to
second in the table Swindon.
The match started badly, with Swindon getting a very quick goal, and it
looked as if a major defeat was in the offing.
But West Wilts rallied and Sam Pictor got a close range goal that steadied
the team and gave them confidence. Swindon got a second goal from a Mumford
mistake in the D and before half-time added a third.
There was a reorganisation at half-time and man-of-the-match Ben Hodges was
able to control the home side's centre forward. Hugh Newmarche was able to
make some good runs on the left wing and West Wilts were able to put
pressure, especially in the D.
There were several good chances but it was near the end of the match when a
short corner was won. Terry Evans moved up from sweeper and was instrumental
in setting up Clive Warren to score.
West Wilts finished strongly but there was not enough time to get an
equaliser.
This was a promising finish to a season that started very badly. This team
had a lot of potential, sadly not to be allowed to continue next season.
