Bagfuls of football kits were generously donated by White Horse Juniors FC to street children in Senegal, West Africa, last month.

The gift was flown out with a team of volunteers from Station Hill Baptist Church in Chippenham.

The team were on a 2 week assignment working alongside a Christian mission in the country.

Many street boys of all ages, who attend a day-centre run by the mission, were very excited & grateful for receiving the football kits.

White Horse Juniors FC was established in November 1999 to provide a focal point for boys and girls in Calne and the surrounding areas to extend their football skills and test them against other local sides.

The club regularly fields teams that range in age from under 6’s up to U18's.

From the beginning the club has grown steadily, with some original players who began as 6 and 7 years old now playing for the club as under 12s. White Horse Juniors now has a membership of some 150 boys and girls with a supporting crew of friends and family.

White Horse has a policy of ensuring that all children, irrespective of ability, will have the opportunity to join the club and play for a team in their age group.

Parents, friends and family are encouraged to participate within the club and we are always looking for future potential managers. Any suitable candidates will be put through training for their FA Coaching Badges.

We have large and successful squads in many age groups who play in the North Wiltshire and Mid Wiltshire Leagues. They are coached by our team of managers, all of whom are required to hold minimum FA Level 1 certification, which covers coaching, child protection and emergency aid.

Some of our managers have achieved FA Level 2 qualifications.

All managers and any helpers are required to attend the FA child protection course and to be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

The club achieved F.A. Chartered Standard Club status in August 2005 and is now aiming towards the next stage, Development Status. We also plan to move into the new facilities at Beversbrook.

As well as playing league matches during the football season White Horse promotes all teams throughout the off season by entering tournaments in and around Wiltshire. We also be running our own tournament on 11/12 July at Beversbrook.

We are always looking for new recruits in all age groups. Please browse our website at www.clubwebsite..co.uk/whitehorsejuniorsfc to find out more information about the club. For more information please contact the Secretary, Steve Bates, on 01249 817837or e-mail steve.bates@whitehorsejfc.co.uk.
