TROWBRIDGE Tornado Danny Talbot's Olympic debut ended in disappointment as Team GB's men were disqualified from their 4x100m relay heat after failing their final baton changeover.

The 21-year-old was given the nod for the third leg of this evening's race at the Olympic Stadium and managed to keep a steady distance behind Jamaica's 100m and 200m silver medallist Yohan Blake but his handover to fellow youngster Adam Gemili was completed outside of the changeover box, resulting in Britain's elimination from the competition.

After Christain Malcolm and Dwain Chambers had run Team GB's opening two legs, the quartet went on to finish second behind Jamaica with a season's best time of 37.93 but their efforts were in vain following Talbot and Gemili's mix-up.

"I don't know what happened really - I just couldn't catch (Gemili)," said the Trowbridge sprint star.

"I feel bad for the team because we've worked so hard and done so much training.

"I'm gutted - it's devastating really.

"I was just trying to shout 'hand' and he put his hand back, we got it in, but just a bit too late."

Gemili, 18, added: "Maybe I went early or a bit hard - I don't know.

"It's disappointing because we ran 37.9 and we could have really been in contention for the final ha we have made it."

Talbot's selection in the relay quartet came in favour of fellow 200m specialist James Ellington and he was keen to pay tribute to his team-mate.

"He had such a hard time in the 200m and he would have been on the third leg so sorry to him that we couldn't get it round," he said.
