BEN Davis (Farrington and Thornbury), 12, won the Somerset under 14 title at Wells in difficult conditions with strong winds and hail-stones nearly half the size of golf balls causing a suspension of play at one point.
The 13-handicapper shot a gross 82 to beat defending champion Josh Knight of Wheathill by one shot.
He has now been picked for the Somerset Boys under-14 squad and will play four matches this year.
Cara Swift (Clevedon) won the inaugural girls' section of the championship with 35 points.
