Kid Carson makes his county debut
ADAM Carson who was 16 last month, became one of the youngest players to appear in the Gloucestershire county first team in the Channel League opener against Devon at East Devon, Budleigh Salterton.
This reflects the immense improvement the six-foot tall Long Ashton member he has made over the past few months in gaining international recognition as a member of the England under-16 squad, alongside the Kendleshire's Chris Lloyd.
He won the English Golf Union under-16 championship for the McGregor Trophy by seven shots at Southport and Ainsdale and was runner up in the Douglas Johns Trophy.
The 2006 Gloucestershire youths champion was later named in the England squad to compete in the International Dutch Junior Masters in Holland in September. He helped the under-16s beat Scotland 12-3 in the annual international at Prestwick St Nicholas. He was also a joint runner-up in the South West boys' championship at Enmore Park.
Carson left Millfield School last summer and is now completing his education with a private tutor to allow the maximum amount of time to play golf.
He started this busy month by romping home in the under-18 section Faldo Series qualifier after shooting one-under-par 70 at Saunton.
