FROME Town Sports have reached the semi-finals of the Somerset Junior Cup for the first time in their history.
They came back from a goal down at the break to beat Meadow Rangers 3-1, all three goals coming in a five minute spell.
The game started in very heavy conditions and finished in atrocious ones.
Meadow Rangers, who are currently sixth in the Premier Division of the Mid-Somerset League, took the lead after 20 minutes with a somewhat dubious penalty.
Both teams then created several good chances but the score was still 1-0 at the break.
Frome Town Sports, who are still unbeaten in Division One of the Trowbridge League, played up the considerable slope in the second half and as the game progressed they began to look the fitter outfit.
Midway through the half Frome scored three goals in five minutes, through Frank Alexander (65th), Luke Stanley (66th) and substitute Paul Davey (70), the third goal headed home following a long clearance by the goalkeeper.
For the last 20 minutes Frome Town Sports were put under a lot of pressure by Meadow Rangers but they held on to gain a fine victory and a semi-final spot on March 10, against the winners of the postponed fixture between Coleford Athletic, who are third in the Mid-Somerset League Premier Division, and Normalair RSL, who are third in the Yeovil League Premier Division.
The Trowbridge League now have three Division One teams through to their respective County Junior Cup semi-finals - North Bradley Saints and Seend United in Wiltshire and Frome Town Sports in Somerset.
