Broughton Gifford staged a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down to claim all three points from a 4-3 win over Calne Eagles in an incident packed match at Stanley Park.

Broughton won the toss and decided to play into the fierce wind that was blowing the length of the pitch.

Calne Eagles took control of the game and, despite the many very frustrating offside decisions, always looked capable of scoring goals.

Eagles opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Shaun Jefferies' powerful shot slipped through the fingers of goalkeeper Julian Putt. They then extended their lead when Jamie Davies comfortably beat Broughton's attempted offside trap to slot his goal coolly home, with the referee choosing to ignore the inevitable flag.

Against the run of play, Calne's centre-half Roy Wenham clumsily tripped-up pacey centre-forward Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock inside the box to concede a penalty. Rowles-Hitchcock took the penalty himself, only for Andy Windsor to make his second consecutive penalty save.

Calne continued to press and the lively Davies went on to score his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.

Shortly before half-time Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock managed to break clear of Calne's defence, clinically avoiding the advancing Andy Windsor to score what proved to be the crucial goal for his team.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, Eagles coped well with the strong headwind until Kevin Hamersley was harshly adjudged to have fouled inside the box. Rowles-Hitchcock once again took the penalty and this time just managed to squeeze his shot past Windsor.

Moments later, the game was turned on its head when Broughton's Rich Radcliffe was sent off for lashing out at Jamie Davies. Calne's Nick Cawley also saw red for retaliation, as did apparent peace-keeper Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Broughton managed to pull level when substitute Chris Turk headed in from close range.

Broughton's winning goal came from Sam Johnson who struck a stunning shot from distance into the top corner with 15 minutes remaining.

Despite the Eagles pushing hard for an equaliser they couldn't get the breakthrough they needed.

In the closing minutes, Shaun Jefferies, who has been booked only once in the last four years, was sent off for a second yellow card.

The Stiffs 0, Bradford United Reserves 4

THE Stiffs remain the strongest team in the League, propping everyone else up as they lost yet again, this time to Bradford United Reserves.

Their defence remained intact for 45 minutes as they reach half-time level.

The second half started well for Bradford as they went a goal up through Jamal Ayoub, and then it proceeded to get better as Simon Picket made it 2-0 and Skip Ayoub 3-0 before Picket completed the 4-0 score line after 80 minutes.
