Division One Blue Circle gained their revenge for last week's surprise Knockout Cup defeat by North Bradley by beating the same opposition in the preliminary round of the Pied Piper Promotions -sponsored A and B Cup.

North Bradley, newly elected to Division Three, travelled to Blue Circle hoping for a repeat of last week's success when they knocked their opponents out of the Knockout Cup, but there was no giant-killing this week though, with Blue Circle gaining ample revenge with a convincing 6-1 win.

Shaun Sheppard led the way for the home side with four very well taken goals and Wayne Bristow and Kane Scott - with a thunderbolt of a shot for his first ever goal for the club - added further strikes to book a place in the next round.

Lee Ovens scored a consolation goal for North Bradley just before half-time and the villagers could have few complaints about the result.

FC Chippenham Youth A 0, Trowbridge Town A 9

DIVISION One Trowbridge Town A travelled to FC Chippenham Youth A expecting another easy passage after their goal glut against lower league opposition last week.

They were not disappointed and came away with an imposing 9-0 score line in their favour.

Lee Hayward was in scintillating form with two goals to his credit in the first half and a further four of the best in the second, while Bradley King-Taylor added one more to the total. Dave Burrows completed the scoring with two more late goals.

FC Northbridge 2, Westfield FC 1

FC NORTHBRIDGE entertained Westfield and progressed to the next round with goals from Andy Colebrook and Kye Leather.

But the newcomers to Division Three from Radstock gave a highly creditable performance and pulled one back through John West-Gaul.

Freshford United 3, Broughton Gifford 2

FRESHFORD United had happy memories of Broughton's last visit to Brown Park when they clinched the Division One title two years ago, and soon took the initiative in this latest clash of the two old rivals.

A thrilling cup tie saw Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead, but Neil Birleson soon equalised after the interval and Neil Hyde then put the home side in front.

With only five minutes to go Richard Radcliffe put Broughton level again, only for Phil Little to snatch a late winner with only two minutes to go.

Frome Town Sports 3, Trowbridge Wanderers 0

AT Gypsy Lane, Frome Town Sports soon gained the ascendancy against visiting Trowbridge Wanderers and took a 1-0 half-time lead through Leon Kelly.

Damien Edwards and Phil Webley made the game safe for the Division One outfit in the second half, but Trowbridge Wanderers from Division Two put up a creditable performance.

Heytesbury 1, Lavington 7

AFTER last week's heavy defeat at Broughton, Heytesbury faced high-scoring Lavington hoping to sort out their defensive problems.

However, last season's Division Two champions are still in prolific goalscoring form and surged into a 4-1 half-time lead.

Although Paul Dredge pulled one back for Heytesbury, their opponents swept through to the next round with ease with goals from Wayne House, Wesley Palmer, two more for Myles Hickton and a well deserved hat-trick for Jamie Bayes.

Mere Town YTD 1, The Stiffs 2

THE young Mere Town YTD were hosts to The Stiffs and did well to hold their more experienced visitors to 1-1 at half-time, with Mike Ritson opening the account for The Stiffs only for Tom Young to equalise just before the interval.

A keenly contested second period ensued, with Christian Player notching the winner for The Stiffs in the 55th minute.

St Andrews Winsley 1, Bromham Reserves 0

St ANDREWS Winsley faced stern opposition from Bromham Reserves and the two well matched teams fought out a dour 1-1 draw.

It was a game of two halves as Bromham began the better at Avon Park and their efforts were rewarded with a goal from central defender Andy Stonestreet who headed in from a corner on the half hour mark to make it 0-1 at half-time.

St Andrews responded in the second-half and midfielder Jed Osborne latched onto a Tom Baker through ball to level the scores. Minutes later Jed Osborne's strike from outside of the box looked goal-bound but a great finger-tip save from the Bromham goalkeeper kept the scores level.

Both sides had chances to win the tie in the extra-time period but the game finished 1-1 and a replay at Bromham now awaits the two teams.

Sugar Rays Sports Bar 0, Semington Magpies 3

SUGAR Rays Sports Bar, who have now heard from the Wilts FA that their name change to FC Courthouse has been approved, had a tough draw when they were paired with Division One Semington Magpies.

Semington finally got the season underway and dominated the first half. Mark James put Magpies one up, slotting the ball home after the Courthouse goalkeeper dropped the ball on the edge of the box. Half way through the first half Johny McChesney scored Magpies' second on his debut for the club with a shot from 25 yards.

In the second half Semington Magpies made some changes and this seemed to spark Courthouse into life and Semington goalkeeper Shaun Jenkins made three very good saves to keep his side in front.

Semington winger Dave Castle also scored on his debut when he lobbed the keeper from a tight angle to send Magpies into the hat for the next round with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Westbury United A 4, Calne Eagles 2

AFTER their enforced lay-off due to weather conditions last week, Calne Eagles faced a tough task at Division One Westbury United A.

And the home side overcame lower league opposition for the second week running by beating a spirited Calne Eagles 4-2 in a very open and sporting game.

Westbury opened the scoring after only four minutes when Eagles centre-back Roy Wenham was penalised for handball inside the box and Jamie House coolly slotted home the resulting penalty.

Calne Eagles came back strongly. Nick Cawley scuffed his shot wide, when he was clean through on goal and Adam Bewley saw a good shot rebound off the post, but Bewley got his reward after 15 minutes when he lobbed a Danny Thompson through-ball over advancing keeper Leo Whitehead.

Westbury regained the lead when a teasing free kick into Calne's penalty area resulted in Kev Hamersley putting the ball through his own net.

Calne once again came back fighting and equalised when Brett Cullen found himself in space on the edge of the box and sent his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

With 10 minutes of the half left, Westbury took the lead again when Kieran Stone, who appeared to push his marker, headed home from 10 yards out.

The second half was a much tighter affair, with both teams tending to cancel each other out. Calne created the slightly better chances with both Gary Wootten and Shaun Jefferies going close. With five minutes left, Westbury secured their place in the next round when Sam Young struck an unstoppable shot into the top corner from just outside the box.
