Honours even in cup thriller
Lee Hayward
Lee Hayward

Lavington and AFC Trowbridge Town Reserves fought out a superb 3-3 draw in the second round of the Pied Piper Promotions-sponsored A and B Cup.

With the match only minutes old Lavington missed a golden opportunity to go one up as Myles Hickton's shot flashed just wide of the Trowbridge post.

Not to be out done Trowbridge then missed a couple of easy chances themselves. The breakthrough came after 21 minutes as Lee Hayward coolly slotted past the advancing Mike Burton in the Lavington goal.

It was 2-0 four minutes later as Hayward netted his second as the Lavington defence just stood and watched.

With both teams playing end-to-end football another goal was sure to arrive and it came with three minutes of the half remaining and fell to Lavington's Myles Hickton.

With the second period only five minutes old Lavington caught Trowbridge napping at the back and found themselves on level terms as Jamie Bayes darted in to score. Nine minutes later Lavington took the lead as Bayes grabbed his second goal of the match which totally stunned the opposition.

The game continued to be played at a fast pace with Trowbridge desperately looking for an equalising goal and with eight minutes remaining Lee Hayward scored that goal to complete his hat-trick.

Rowde Sports 6, Heytesbury 5

ROWDE Sports progressed to the next round after coming out on top by the odd goal in 11 against Heytesbury.

A hat-trick by Ben Giles gave Division Three side Rowde the lead at half-time.

Heytesbury then began a second half fightback and were on level terms through goals from Martin Bridle, Lee Kennedy and Stuart Beggs.

Rowde regained the lead when Jamie Mullings scored, but this was short lived as Jamie Vincent levelled the match again.

With time ebbing away Heytesbury found themselves in front as Vincent scored again, but Rowde were determined to stay in the cup and scored two more goals through Jamie Mullings to complete his hat-trick and seal the victory.

Westbury United A 4, Steeple Ashton 3

WITH goals going in all over the place in the cup, Westbury and Steeple Ashton were not going to be the odd ones out as they produced a seven goal thriller of their own.

Dan Martin opened the scoring for Westbury but they were pegged back at the break as Mike Hindle scored for the visitors.

The second period started brightly for Ashton, who took the lead through Dean Gumm, but Westbury fought back when Dan Martin scored his second.

With 20 minutes left Westbury regained the lead through Chris Storey, but this was short lived as Ullian Serafimov tied the match for a third time.

With seconds left Westbury grabbed a winner as Chris Storey netted his second goal of the match to break the hearts of Steeple Ashton.
