Mere Town's progress in the E J Shanley and Son
Limited-sponsored Division Two Cup is all but assured after a 9-0 first
round preliminary round thrashing of Frome Town Sports A.
The home side had no answer to the awesome fire power of Mere and found
themselves 4-0 down at the break.
Gavin Parfitt with two, Sean Jones and Dean Haskett were all on the score
sheet for Mere.
The start of the second half saw Gavin Parfitt complete yet another
hat-trick, before Chris Parfitt and Richard Dickson scored two each to
complete the rout.
Hilperton United 3, The Lamb Inn 1
HILPERTON United put their poor league form to one side to take a 3-1 lead
against The Lamb Inn from this first leg match.
Ian True put the home side in front after a mistake at the back by The Lamb
after 20 minutes. The lead was then doubled just before half-time as Sean
McGill scored.

The second half only ten minutes old when The Lamb's Andrew Edwards pulled a
goal back to give the visitors hope of not being too far behind for the
second leg, but they conceded a third goal from Lee Ovens with only seconds
of the match left.
Semington Magpies 2, FC Chippenham Youth Reserves 7
LEAGUE form counted for nothing in this match as high flying Semington
Magpies were humbled by lowly FC Chippenham Youth Reserves.
The match started brightly for the home side as they scored the first goal
through Andy Harrison, but that was as good as it got for them as FC
Chippenham slowly started to dominate.
Aaron Merryweather scored the equaliser before Mick Austin scored two quick
goals to make it 3-1. By half-time Aaron Merryweather completed his
hat-trick to make it 5-1.
Goal number six for Chippenham came on the hour mark from Jack Coathupe, and
shortly after number seven arrived when Kyle Balloch scored.
Semington scored their second goal of the match in the dying seconds, Stuart
Barber on target.
