St Andrews Winsley have taken a narrow one goal first leg
lead in their weather delayed first round match in the E J Shanley and Son
Limited-sponsored Division Two Cup.
With the first half ending goal-less both teams went in search of glory in
the second and Bratton struck first through Dan Cox.
The lead lasted only five minutes as Lewis Meaden equalised for the Saints.
With time running out and both teams going for the winner, Tom Giles latched
onto a rare error in the Bratton midfield to secure the win by beating the
Bratton goalkeeper with a thunderbolt of a shot.
FC Chippenham Youth Reserves 0, Semington Magpies 6

SEMINGTON Magpies pulled off the comeback of the season after finding
themselves 7-2 down after the first leg.
The Magpies knew it would take something special to progress into the next
round and they dominated the whole game.

They took the lead after just two minutes when Matt Russell beat two players
and found the back of the net from 20 yards. Stuart Barber made it 2-0 with
only five minutes of the game gone when he flicked the ball over a
defender's head and volleyed into the roof of the net from just outside the
box.
Chippenham kept the deficit to two goals during the first half and must have
thought they would still win the tie.
Early in the second half Matt Russell got his second of the game and
Magpies' third with a superb solo goal. Rich Allum then gave Magpies real
hope when he smashed home a Mark James corner from eight yards after
Chippenham failed to clear.
Stuart Barber made it 5-0 and 7-7 on aggregate when Andy Harrison flicked
the ball on for Barber to smash home from the edge of the box.
Simon Hillman sent Magpies flying into the next round when he calmly slotted
home at the back post from a Mark James corner with only four minutes left
on the clock.
Mere Town 8, Frome Town Sports A 1
(Mere won 17-1 on aggregate)
WITH a 9-0 lead from the first leg, Mere Town set about total demoralising
Frome Town Sports A in the second leg.
By half-time Mere held a 14-0 aggregate lead. Doug Buck began the scoring
before Richard Dickinson grabbed a hat-trick and a Tommy Read penalty
secured the score line at 5-0.
The second half saw Frome pull a goal back, but Mere continued to dominate
as they scored a further three goals, from Dean Haskett, Scott Talbot and
Colin Parfitt, to make the score 8-1 on the day and 17-1 on aggregate.
The Lamb Inn 6, Hilperton United 2

HOLDING a 3-1 lead from the first leg, Hilperton found the second leg a lot
harder as The Lamb were determined not to be knocked out.
Both teams started out at a fast pace with the game being played end to end
and chances going begging.
The first goal eventually came after 29 minutes from a move down The Lamb's
left wing and a shot from Mark Williams which beat Simon Hardwick in the
Hilperton goal.
Eight minutes after the restart the Lamb levelled the aggregate score as
Robin Walker pounced on a Hilperton defensive error. Mark Williams then
completed the turn around some four minutes later to give the hosts the
lead.
Stunned into action Hilperton scored a goal through substitute Mark Burrell
after 63 minutes.
With Hilperton still celebrating the goal, The Lamb regained the lead as
Jason Twigg cut through the defence like a hot knife through butter to give
goalkeeper Hardwick no chance.
The game then settled down for a period of four minutes before yet another
goal was scored, Mark Burrell grabbing his second to tie the scores yet
again, this time at 5-5.
A devastating six minute spell then saw Hilperton dumped out of the cup as
Damien Hateley grabbed two goals; his first after 73 minutes and his second
after 79.
The last ten minutes saw Hilperton pile forward in search of goals but they
were unable to beat Paul Farion in the Lamb goal.
Westbury United A 1, Heytesbury 0
(1-1 on aggregate. Westbury won 5-3 on penalties)
HEYTESBURY travelled to Westbury holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg which
they held onto until midway through the second half of the second leg.
Adam McMackin then scored Westbury's all important goal.
With the match tied at the end of 90 minutes, extra-time was played, but
there was no breakthrough.
The outcome of the match came down to the dreaded penalty shoot-out,
Westbury going through by five penalties to three.
