Myles Hickton races through to score his first goal in Lavington's victory over Semington Magpies on Saturday (21641/1)
VILLAGE football team Lavington could end the season with more trophies than
Premiership giants Manchester United.
While Sir Alex Ferguson's side are still in a mere two competitions,
Trowbridge League Division Two side Lavington are on course for the
quadruple.
And should they do it it would complete a remarkable transformation for
Lavington, who just 12 months ago made the headlines for all the wrong
reasons when their goalkeeper was sent off for hitting the referee during a
cup final.
The club want to lay to rest the events of last year's Trowbridge League
Division Two Cup Final when goalkeeper PJ Simmonds hit Chippenham-based
referee Julian Sattin and was given a five-year playing ban and a £250 fine.
The villagers are still in three cup competitions and are favourites to win
the Division Two title.
They are seventh in the league but will go six points clear if they win
their five games in hand.

With 12 league matches to play, Lavington are facing a hectic end to the
season, with a possible seventeen games in only five weeks.
The club have already made it to two cup finals and if they overcome Mere
Town over two legs in the last four of the E.J.Shanley and Son Division Two
Cup, they will appear in a record three finals.
In the Knockout Cup Final on May 6 sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd of
Trowbridge, Lavington face stiff opposition from The Deverills at Westbury
United's Meadow Lane ground.
Three days later on the same ground, Lavington will take on Division One
side Frome Town Sports in the A and B Cup final sponsored by Pied Piper
Promotions.
Club secretary Tracy Cannon said the club were dreaming of scooping all four
trophies.
Cannon said: "There has been the odd whisper about the quadruple, it would
be very nice if we could do it.
"If we did do the four that would be amazing. Anything's possible, you don't
know, do you?
"I'm really proud of the lads, they are working really hard and they deserve
it.
"We've got a really busy schedule until the end of the season. It's going to
take its toll but we will just take it as it comes.
"We're trying not to look too far ahead and taking one game at a time."
