Seend United Reserves 5, Calne Eagles 3
SEEND United Reserves beat Calne Eagles 5-3 in a game that contained some
very good finishing from both sides.
The Eagles started brightly and took the lead after only 10 minutes when
player-manager Roy Wenham headed home a Danny Thompson free kick. They
extended their lead when Jamie Davies finished powerfully from a tight
angle.
Seend came back strongly and after 25 minutes Dan Humphries hammered home a
shot at the far post following a corner that was not fully cleared.
Moments later they were level when Danny Thompson was caught in possession
on the edge of the box and the ball broke kindly to Humphries, who
confidently struck his shot past goalkeeper Andy Windsor.
Then with half-time fast approaching, Seend took the lead through Dan
Humphries, who got the better of two Calne defenders following a long pass
upfield to complete his hat-trick.
Calne regained their composure at the start of the second half as they
searched for a way back into the game, but two superb individual goals, the
first by Dave Castle and the second from Dan Humphries, again put the game
seemingly beyond Calne's reach.
With 10 minutes remaining a superb long distance shot from veteran striker
Nick Cawley gave the Eagles some hope. Only moments later both Adam Bewley
and Steve Roberts had good chances to score for Calne, which might have had
set up an interesting last few minutes, but Seend United hung on to claim a
deserved three points.
