Lavington book cup place

Lavington marched into the final of the E J Shanley and Son Limited-sponsored Division Two Cup after overcoming Mere Town 5-2 on the day and by 8-3 on aggregate.

The first half saw Lavington applying pressure on the Mere goal whenever they could and they scored the first goal through Wesley Palmer after only ten minutes.

Not to be outdone, Mere hit back with a converted penalty from Chris Parfitt six minutes later.

With Lavington still pushing forward and controlling the game they scored a second through Myles Hickton to make it 2-1 at score at half-time.

The second period saw no relief for Mere as Lavington put on attack after attack and broke through again, this time Jamie Bayes scoring. Midway through the half Bayes scored again to make it 4-1 and put the tie well and truly beyond Mere.

To add insult to injury Mere then scored an unfortunate own goal through Richard Cornford to make it 5-1.

With time running out Mere scored their second goal of the match when Mick Ward tapped in from close range to make the final score 5-2.

The Eleven Statues 1, Westbury United A 0

WESTBURY United A will line up against Lavington in the final despite losing their second leg 1-0 away to The Eleven Statues.

The only goal of the match came midway through the first half from Matt Allcott.

The second half saw both teams pushing to score, but their defences remained in control and Westbury go through 4-1 on aggregate.
