Frome Town Sports have won the Pied Piper promotions A and B
Cup after beating Lavington in a penalty shoot-out in the final at Westbury
United on Friday.
Lavington were playing in their second cup final in three days after beating
The Deverills 3-1 after extra-time in the Knockout Cup on Tuesday.
The first half hour saw total domination by Lavington but they were unable
to score. Frome then came into the game and missed several chances to leave
the score at 0-0 at half-time.
The second half started in the same vein as the first, with Lavington being
on top but again they failed to take their chances. Midway through the half
two Frome players clashed heads resulting in one going to hospital for
stitches.
The resulting substitution seem to inspire Frome and they dominated the last
15 minutes, but the 90 minutes finished goal-less.
Extra-time was played out in the same fashion as the first 90, with both
teams unable to break each other down and the dreaded penalties became
inevitable.

for 1-0. Myles Hickton levelled for Lavington and then Jordan Lawrence
(Frome) and Luke Chant (Lavington) made it 2-2.
Frome captain Lewis Collier made it 3-2 before Jamie Bayes saw his shot
saved by Dean Evans. Peter Sturman then scored to make it 4-2 to Frome, but
Rob Jenks kept his cool to make it 4-3 to keep Lavington in it. Substitute
Ian Kennedy then put the game beyond Lavington as he slotted home to make
the final score 5-3 on penalties.
