CHIPPENHAM Town avenged their heartbreaking defeat to Hemel Hempstead
earlier in the season with a superb 2-0 win on Saturday.
Adie Mings' side lost 2-1 to Hemel in November after a late turnaround but
set the record straight, courtesy of goals from forwards David Pratt and
Sean Seavill.
The result dealt a huge blow to Hemel's hopes of overtaking The Bluebirds
for a play-off place, although it did not end them all together.
Chippenham's first attempt on goal came after seven minutes when Sean
Seavill crossed for Sam Allison, but the forward shaved the post from the
edge of the area.
The signs were looking good for The Bluebirds two minutes later as Hemel
goalkeeper Ian Brown saved from Seavill.
The home side were panicked seconds later as Allison headed Kye Holly's free
kick across goal, but the ball came to goalkeeper Brown via Adam Martin.

Hemel made their first inroads on 24 minutes when Ian Cooper raced onto a
long ball, only to be denied by Snoddy, and Cooper skied the rebound over
the bar from the edge of the area.
Chippenham had a stroke of luck as they took the lead six minutes before
half time.
Allison swiped at Kye Holly's centre but the ball fortunately came to David
Pratt, who slammed into the right corner from close in.
The Bluebirds escaped at the other end three minutes later as Chris Dillon
slid Paul Edgeworth's cross wide with Chris Snoddy struggling.
Seavill got the crucial second goal soon after the restart when he hit a
rocket into the top left corner following Holly's lay-off.
As the hour approached winger Aaron Cornwall came within a whisker of
extending the lead as he clipped the upright from the edge of the area.
Hemel threw everything at Adie Mings' side in the final half hour, but The
Bluebirds defended stoutly and Hemel failed to create anything of note.
Pratt and Holly both shot off-target as Chippenham tried to sneak a third
but Adie Mings' side were made to settle for a 2-0 victory.
Delighted Chippenham manager Mings was generous in his praise for his
players.
Mings said: "The lads were fantastic on Saturday.
"They were fully committed and I could see they were right up for the game.
"They knew how important it was to get the win and they went and showed
their true quality.
"Hemel is a difficult place to go, they have been on a fantastic run and to
win 2-0 was a great achievement."
Hemel can still snatch a promotion place away from Chippenham if The
Bluebirds lose their last two games, but Gloucester City are closer
challengers to Adie Mings' side.
