Lye keeps cool as battle hots up

CHIPPENHAM Town may be entering a crucial stage of the season with big games coming thick and fast, but midfielder Scott Lye is staying calm in spite of it all.

Chippenham have a high stakes clash at Cheshunt next Saturday, in which victory will all but assure The Bluebirds of a Southern League Premier Division play-off place.

But Lye says he is not concerned with pressure and just wants to have a good time on the pitch.

Lye said: "I'll just go out and enjoy it, I don't try to worry about it too much, otherwise it affects your game.

"I'm more excited than worried. I'm looking forward to the play-offs and hopefully getting promoted.

"I don't think we can get complacent, we've just got to try and win our last two games."

Should The Bluebirds fail to win against Cheshunt next Saturday, they face a daunting encounter at home to promotion rivals Team Bath on the final day of the season.

But Lye played down talk of added pressure on him and his team-mates.

Lye said: "There will be pressure on them (Team Bath), especially if they haven't won the league.

"We've been in the top five or six all season and I'm quite confident we can stay there. It should be an interesting end to the season."

Lye experienced title glory with Corsham Town in the Toolstation League Premier Division last year but has never been promoted.

The midfielder fancies The Bluebirds' chances of going up should they make it to the play-offs.

Lye said: "If we do it's just a one-off game and I don't think anyone will be looking forward to playing us. On our day we can beat anyone."

Lye also said he was no longer troubled by the calf injury that forced him out a fortnight ago.
