Drinks are on the boss after Bluebirds make play-offs

CHIPPENHAM Town defender Ross Adams has revealed there was an unlikely source of motivation to beat Cheshunt on Saturday, not the promise of Conference South football, but a drink from boss Adie Mings.

After cruising to a 4-1 victory in Hertfordshire, none of the players were tempted by a night out in London when they heard Mings had made the rare decision to loosen his purse strings.

Adams said: "All the boys were back on the coach because Adie did say he'd buy us a drink after the game.

"That was a once in a lifetime opportunity, he seems to conveniently forget his wallet most Saturdays.

"It was a nice touch from Adie but I couldn't see it happening many more times.

"It wasn't too over the top because we know we've still got a long way to go yet. We're not getting too carried away.

"We've been there many times so we're just going to take it one game at a time."

The Bluebirds' victory at Cheshunt came courtesy of a hat-trick from David Pratt and a goal from substitute Luke Gullick.

Even a handball by Adams which led to Cheshunt's equaliser before the break could not spoil the day.

The result has set up a play-off semi-final at Halesowen Town, regardless of Chippenham's result against Team Bath at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday.

But a win for Mings' men will cost local rivals Team Bath an automatic promotion place, while a draw could do the same.

Even though this Saturday's result has no bearing on who they take on in the play-offs, Adams said he would like to see Mings field a strong side.

Adams said: "Saturday's a massive game. If was King's Lynn I'd want us to be putting out our strongest side possible because it has a massive effect on who wins the league.

"I wouldn't want it to be a weakened side by too much because Team Bath are a good side."

The full back fancies his team's chances against Halesowen in the play-off semi-final.

Adams said: "We played quite well against them this season especially at Halesowen. We've drawn against them twice so we're pretty well matched."
