WARMINSTER were put to the sword by Cheltenham batsman Peter Woodland as they slipped to their eighth defeat in a row last weekend.

The visiting opener hit two sixes and 21 fours as he smacked the Warminster bowlers around the park, making 143 off 145 deliveries.

Tom Davie’s side won the toss and opted to bowl first, but they were soon made to regret that decision as Woodland put Cheltenham in control.

He was well-supported by fellow opener Michael Kelly, who was also in fine form as he hit 92 off just 60 balls.

Wade Risdale chipped in with 39 for the visitors while Harry Arthur made 16.

Warminster captain Davie and Nathan Bond both took two wickets apiece but they failed to hamper Chelten-ham, who posted a mammoth 355-7.

Davie’s men did their best to put their own hearty score on the board, with Richie Underdown hitting 63 whilst Pete Hickerton made 45.

Mikee Selmes (16) and Davie (15) struggled to get going at the crease whilst Bond (13) and Neil Dredge (12) both toiled as Warminster were always behind a challenging run rate.

Cheltenham’s Ben McHar-die- Jones put pressure on the hosts by taking three wickets while Arthur also claimed two.

Warminster’s David Bateman and John Powell were both unbeaten on 14 as they the home side fell short by 102 runs on 253-8.

Davie’s men are currently 60 points adrift of second-from-bottom Gloucester City Winget at the basement of the Premier Two Division.

They travel to Glaston-bury, who handed them a narrow 12-run defeat in June, tomorrow before taking on Winget and promotion-chasing Taunton Deane.
