PURTON cantered to a comfortable victory over Beanacre & Melksham to mathematically ensure promotion back to the West of England Premier League, 12 months after they took the crown but were subsequently removed of it after being found to have fielded an ineligible player.

The champions’ latest win was a routine affair with Aaron Lee taking 4-20 and Akki Gomel 4-11 as the visitors crumbled to 116 all out. In reply, Gomel hit 51 as Purton cruised to their target in the 18th over of 45.

In Division Two, newly-crowned kings Box eased to victory over Corsham 3rd. Jake Pettit notched 92 as the champions posted 233-6.

Corsham were skittled out for 132 with Dave Sanchez and Dave Crawford picking up two wickets apiece.

Wroughton Wranglers edged a low-scoring affair against Lacock by five wickets, while Swindon A hammered Westinghouse by 160 runs.

In Division Four, Swindon B were beaten by three wickets by Beanacre & Melksham 2nds despite two wickets from the evergreen Randy Roze.

Scott Cameron’s unbeaten 50 saw Beanacre over the line as they chased down Swindon’s 92.

Blunsdon couldn’t make many inroads into Buscot Park’s lead at the top of Division Five, as their match at Warminster 4ths was cancelled. Blunsdon are now 11 points behind the leaders with one game left.

In Division Six, White Horse left themselves in with an unlikely chance of top spot following victory over Goatacre 3rd.

Dave Martin hit 71 in the Horse’s total of 220-6, and Goatacre ended up 30 runs short.

In Division Seven, Box 2nd made it double joy for the club as the seconds emulated the first team by winning the Division Seven title with a game to spare.

Playing at Heytesbury & Sutton Veny, the visitors batted first and racked up 214-3 with Dave Kelly (72 not out), Chris Jenkins (60) and Steve Hall (42) the main contributors.

The home side’s reply fell short as they were all out for 124, thanks mainly to Steve Halls’ 5-9 off eight overs, as Rob Robson top scored with 64.

Chris Armitstead (33) and Graham Milne (40) gave Burbage 3rd a solid start against Buscot 2nds enabling Nick Cranston (73) to lead the charge to set Buscot a target of 244.

In Buscot’s reply only Paul Farmer (57) was able to meet the rate as they fell 81 runs short.

Division Eight title hopefuls Goatacre 4th beat Beehive 2nd by four wickets, with Dave Horton scoring 84 of their 155-6.
