WESTBURY skipper Richard Oakley says his side will be looking to bolster their squad this winter as they aim for a promotion push next season.

Westbury finished fifth in the Glos/Wilts Division in Oakley’s first season as captain, but were unable to sign off with a victory last weekend as they were beaten by 29 runs at home to Chipping Sodbury.

But Oakley declared himself pleased with his team’s efforts this campaign and is certain that Westbury are heading in the right direction.

“We’ve had a lot of changes this year with a lot of different players in the side but I think that it’s been a really good season,” said Oakley.

“Myself and the chairman, Neil Hawker, both think that we’re a club that should be playing Premier League cricket and we want to try and go for promotion next year.

“To do that, we’re going to need to bring in a few more new faces but I’m confident that the club is pointing in the right direction.”

Chipping Sodbury batted first after winning the toss, with Harry Webb (70) and Craig Scully (61) putting runs on the board.

Westbury’s Martin Dolman took 3-19 whilst Oakley, Simon Rose and Richard Mills all helped themselves to two wickets apiece, with the visitors skittled for 200 in the penultimate over.

Rose (36) and Ben Whiting (35) did their best to lead the run chase but Chipping Sodbury’s Richard Wood took 4-22 as Westbury were all out for 172 in the 49th over.

In the Premier One division, Toby Davies hit 68 for Corsham but Robin D’Souza’s side were edged out by four runs against Frocester.

Relegated Warminster were thrashed by eight wickets at Premier Two champions Taunton Deane whilst in the Wiltshire Division, Mike Reynolds (133) and Alex Hart (112) were in scintillating form as Trowbridge hammered Nationwide House by 176 runs.

Winsley suffered an 89-run defeat at the hands of Marshfield.
