WILTSHIRE  have appointed Michael Coles as captain for the 2014 season.

All-rounder Coles, who previously captained the county in 2010 before standing down due to business commitments, led Bridgwater to the West of England Premier League title in the 2012 season.

It was recently revealed that he will return to play club cricket for Corsham in the 2014 campaign.

Former Westbury skipper Joe Breet, who is now with Lechlade and has captained Wiltshire for the last three years, stood down from the position at the end of the 2013 season but will continue as a player in 2014.

A Wiltshire CCC statement said: "The County Club wish to express their appreciation for his (Breet's) efforts during his time as captain.

"This included season 2012 when Wiltshire reached the final of the MCCA Trophy and were third in the Western Division of the Championship - their most successful season for many years.''

Coles played for Corsham between 2006-08. The powerful right-handed opening batsmen and medium seam bowler was the WEPL’s leading run scorer in 2013 with 826 runs at an average of 51.

He also contributed 18 wickets.

Coles made particular headlines with the bat in 2013, clubbing 246 from just 156 balls for Bridgwater against Illminster.

Remarkably, he followed that up the next day, smashing a stunning innings of 221 not out for Wiltshire in their three-day Minor Counties Championship Western Division clash against Shropshire at South Wilts.

It was the highest total ever by a Wiltshire batsman in the Minor Counties Championship.

Coles also hit an unbeaten 185 off 163 balls for his county against Herefordshire at Brockhampton in their final championship match.
