OUR superb form this season means selection for the county team is an absolute nightmare at the moment.

An example was in Sunday’s quarter-final against Oxfordshire where our skipper Mike Coles had a slight injury which meant he was unable to bowl.

In a game like that you needed six bowlers, especially at Corsham where, if someone gets after you, it can be really difficult.

It meant we had to make the really tough call to leave Neil Clark out of the team and bring Henry Langford in, because we needed that bowling option.

It was a tough one for Neil who has been playing really well for us this season and he was absolutely distraught about it before the game.

I think he saw afterwards why we had done it and, with Tom Morton unavailable for this weekend’s three-day game against Dorset, Neil will come back into the side and I hope he does really well.

We would have liked to have won the toss and batted in Sunday’s quarter-final, but as it was, it worked out for us.

After getting them to 89-8, I was worried that we hadn’t nailed them down. But the wicket got a bit flatter and 144 all out was good enough.

We needed that bit of experience from Ed (Young) and he and Adam Miles nearly took us there, but Tahir (Afridi) came in and finished it off with Ed.

The team – players and management – are delighted with what’s going on and it’s great that we’re getting so many messages and congratulations from people about the results this season.

We want to do the same this weekend in the three-dayer with Dorset.

If we could get the victory we would be two out of two in the championship and in a very good position.

We’ll go about it the same way, chasing those bonus points in the first innings and, hopefully, being in a good position for the win in the second innings.

I think the highest position we’ve ever finished is third, so it would be good to have something like that to aim at in these early stages of the championship campaign.
