TROWBRIDGE’S Scott Mitchell says that his side will strive to get back to their best next season.

The County Ground side, who saw Alex Hart step down as captain earlier this month, have struggled in the Wiltshire Division this summer and have only won once in their last seven outings following last weekend’s three-wicket defeat to Marshfield.

But Mitchell says that Trowbridge are aiming to regroup in the summer as they look to carve out more successful campaign next summer.

“We’ve been really unlucky this year and things haven’t gone for us but I still think that we’re a really strong team,” said Mitchell.

“We want to try and get Trowbridge back to where it should be and we’re going to do everything we can over the winter to be ready for next year.

“There are players already putting themselves forward for next year and we’re going to try and get involved in an indoor league to keep everyone ticking over.

“Rod Edginton is captaining us now and if you add in a year – we could be thinking about a promotion push.”

Trowbridge were put in to bat first on a damp wicket at the County Ground and despite Nick Green hitting 24, the home order struggled to stand up to the Marshfield bowling attack.

Tom Clist (3-15) and Tom Bright (3-20) did the damage as the hosts were put under pressure were dismissed for 92 midway through the 39th over.

But the home side did attempt to launch a fightback, with Mitchell taking 3-23 to see off three of Marshfield’s opening four batsmen.

Mikey Reynolds also chipped in with 3-21 but visiting captain Jamie Mitchell fired his team to victory, hitting an unbeaten 28 as Marshfield reached 96-7 in little more than 20 overs.

Elsewhere, Winsley suffered a 44-run loss at home to Calne, with the visitors’ Julian Kearney hitting an unbeaten 111 as the away side posted 287-6.

Stuart Hammond made 84 in reply but Winsley were all out for 243.
