BATSMAN Uzi Qureshi insists Wiltshire are not putting themselves under pressure to emulate their superb 2014 campaign after they opened their account in the Unicorns Knockout Trophy on Sunday.

Mike Coles’ side, beaten in their Group One opener by Wales in Newport last weekend, clinched a three-wicket win over Dorset in Warminster The home side came out on top as bowlers Ashur Morrison and Nick Harrison shone with the bat, putting on an unbeaten partnership of 65 for the eighth wicket to guide their side home.

Wiltshire reached the last four of the competition last season and also reached the final of the Minor Counties Championship after winning the Western Division, but Qureshi says their heroics last summer are not at the forefront of their minds this time.

“We’re trying not to think about last year too much because we’ve started afresh with a few new additions,’’ said the Frocester man. “In the first match (against Wales), we didn’t really perform so it’s always good to get a first win under your belts.

“There were a couple of good pieces of fielding to get rid of their strong batters Chris Jones and Masoor Khan and although we got ourselves in a bit of a muddle (batting), Ashur batted well with Nick to get us home.

Earlier, both Morrison and Harrison had taken two wickets apiece as Dorset were dismissed for 217 in the 47th over having won the toss and decided to bat.

Opener Masoor Khan hit 68 from 88 balls and shared in a stand of 60 for the third wicket with Chris Jones.

Skipper Coles also weighed in with two wickets in just over three overs to restrict the hosts and openers Tom Morton (29) and Steve Bullen (42) gave early momentum to the Wiltshire innings by putting on 60 for the opening wicket.

Coles added 26 from 24 balls but the game was in the balance with the hosts at 156-7 before Corsham 's Morrison and clubmate Harrison stepped up to push them on to victory.

Wiltshire, beaten in the semi-finals of the competition by Oxfordshire last season, travel to St Austell to take on Cornwall next Sunday.

Tahir Afridi, who has not yet played, will have a late fitness test and Potterne’s Luke De Souza replaces the unavailable Ed Kilbee for his first call-up, while Potterne’s Ed Young returns to the squad of 13.

Qureshi added: “They (Cornwall) will be tough on their home ground but we’re pretty optimistic and we’ll go down there and give it our best shot.’’
