SAM Lawro struck his second half-century of the season for the early Division One pace-setters Wootton Bassett.

After his 96 last weekend, the Bassett opener helped guide his side to an eight wicket success over Urchfont.

The hosts were dismissed for 93 and Darren Beasant’s side needed just 24 overs to reach their target.

Swindon Civil Service claimed a 47 run victory over Nationwide House after dismissing them for 116.

Nervy Beanacre and Melksham claimed a four-wicket success over local rivals Lacock.

Lacock made a steady start to this derby with Beanacre and Melksham after being put into bat.

The usually aggressive Adam Mitchell was keep quiet by the economic Andy Footner, who finished the game with figures of 1-15 from 12 overs.

Lacock had reached 50 when Chay Forrester was dismissed before Steve Copeland was run out for 11 to leave the visitors on 83-2.

Lacock opener Mitchell began to free his arms as he reached his half century before Beanacre’s Alex Tanner and Ben Brown ripped through the visitors.

Tanner took five wickets in 10 balls, including Mitchell for 65, while Brown claimed three in eight balls as Lacock slumped from 99-3 to 114 all out.

A weakened Beanacre and Melksham batting stuttered in their reply as they slumped to 24-3.

Skipper Brown and Dean Wallington then put on a valuable 34-run partnership before Wallington dismissed for 19.

Chris Singh then joined Brown, who then fell for 19, to leave the hosts still requiring another 33 for victory.

Ings and Singh put on a 25-run partnership and when the latter fell eight was required and Roy Veacock and Singh guided the hosts home.

Division 2

SWINDON United Churches continued their perfect start to the season with a fourth straight win at Spye Park.

The Sevenhampton-based side are now 30 points clear of second-placed Heytesbury & Sutton Veny.

On a soft, green wicket, Spye Park put Churches in first and they made quickly removed opener Keith Coatsworth, who failed to trouble the scorers.

However, Jimmy Mann (70 from 76 balls) and Danny Hunt (36 from 53 balls) steadied the ship for Churches, exhibiting self-control and restraint to take the score to 77-1 at the drinks break.

The run rate gradually increased against the Spye Park change bowlers and by the time that Hunt and Mann had both fallen the platform for a big score had been set.

Some destructive hitting from Chris Gilchrist (87 not out from 56 balls, including five sixes), allied with a busy 27 from Liam Brooks, allowed Churches to post 234-7.

Captain Richard Martin, who took 6-36 from his 11 overs, led the Churches attack as they ripped through the Park top order as they slumped to 15-4 and then 37-6.

Park’s captain David Beal (19), Tom Beard (40) and Simon Ellis (25) showed some fight for the hosts but the introduction of Jimmy Mann’s spin brought the innings to an abrupt end at 112 all out.

Collingbourne won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking wicket at Swindon Nalgo.

As it was the wicket did play relatively consistently but generally the bounce was low throughout the innings. Collingbourne made a slow but cautious start as they were 58-2 after 20 overs.

Owen Sheppard and Dave Gale put on 56 from the next 10 overs in their 69-run partnership before the latter fell for 28.

Sheppard went 30 runs later for 56 leaving Dave Malley (30*) and John Aitken (28*) to to steer Collingbourne to 197-4.

In reply Nalgo reached 51 without loss in the opening 13 overs John Aitken and Billy Brett reduced them to 61-2 but the Swindon side reached their with 25 balls to spare for the loss one further wicket.

Division 3

BEN Da Costa hit a maiden century for Corsham thirds to help them to a nine wicket win at home to Ramsbury.

Da Costa hit 101 not out and shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 178 with Tom Hyde (64no) as Corsham reached 186-1 in reply to Ramsbury’s 180-8.

Olly Overton had earlier taken 4-48 for Corsham, while Ramsbury’s P Osmond top scored with 50.

Division 4

LEADERS White Horse made it two wins from two as they swept aside Bathford by 85 runs.

Sam Morshead’s 66 was the backbone of White Horse’s 179-9, although had it not been for the efforts of M Hunt (4-40) that could have been far greater.

Bathford never got going in their reply and Nathan Sheffield led the White Horse attack, claiming 4-23 as the visitors were all out for 94.

Division 5

TOM Dalby’s five-wicket haul helped Heytesbury & Sutton Veny seconds get the better of a low-scoring encounter against their Spye Park counterparts.

His return of 5-33 restricted Spye Park to a modest total of 104 all out, with James Ellis top scoring on 43.

Dalby then led the attack with the bat, crafting a neat 52 as Heytesbury reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

Division 6

UNBELIEVABLE figures of 6-2 from Leigh Beauchamp as Warminster thirds skittled their Marshfield counterparts for just 24.

It was far from plain sailing for Warminster in their reply, though, and they finally got over the line four wickets down.

Division 7

WESTBURY thirds and Chippenham fourths played out a thrilling low scoring game at Bratton which ebbed and flowed before dramatically ending in a tie. Chippenham won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Westbury to bat on a very green track. Batting was not easy for Westbury and they were reduced to 72-6 , however, a useful 36-run partnership between Ian Pothecary (25) and Philip Osborne (23) took Westbury towards a modest total of 120 all out.

In reply, Chippenham were quickly in trouble with Jake Andrews bowling full and straight, dismissing three in his opening two overs as the visitors slumped to 9-4 after four overs.

Useful partnerships between Sullivan (39) and Slade (18) who put on 50 in 15 overs, followed by Sullivan and Lakeland (41 off nine overs) looked to have swung the game in Chippenham’s favour taking them to 104-5, before Kishan Patel (3-7) and Jake Andrews (5-16) cleaned up the tail to leave the scores level and match tied.
