WE’VE got a must-win game against Devon this weekend in order to have a chance of reaching the Unicorns Trophy quarter-finals.

It’s a bit odd that we have got such an important game so early in the season. Clubs are only playing their first two or three games in the league whereas we’ve played six or seven games already and are coming to the end of our Trophy campaign in the group stages.

We haven’t performed as well as we would have liked up to this point but we have been thrown a bit of a lifeline where if we beat Devon and beat them well there’s a chance that we can get through. Every game in this competition is a cup final now.

A win should near enough be enough. We would leapfrog Devon as they have got four points and that would take us to five.

I think if Wales beat Cornwall we might have a bit of a problem and it might come down to run-rate and our run-rate wouldn’t be that strong.

That could be a way that we wouldn’t get through but we have just got to win our game and take it from there.

It’s an old cliche but we have to take each game as it comes. With the way it’s panned out it’s not a case that we can get through even if we lose or have an abandoned game, we’ve got to win it. We have to try to impose ourselves.

I was surprised that Devon lost to Cornwall last week but they are always a pretty strong side. We played pretty well against them last year down in Devon and beat them by two runs.

We have beaten them on our own turf a number of times fairly recently but that was a great win for us, particularly as we hadn’t won down there for a number of years.

On our day we back ourselves to beat any of the sides in the Trophy but we are under no illusions and they are a very strong side and actually won the competition last year. They are defending champions and will be aiming to get through to the quarter-finals as well.

There was no game last week but the players have had club games at the weekend and there are a couple who have come into a little bit of form, which is good. We just hope they can bring that into the game this weekend.
