PAUL Clark’s century for Potterne in the Premier Two 2nd XI division proved in vain as the villagers slipped to an agonising six-run defeat at home to Taunton St Andrews.

Potterne opted to field first after winning the toss and Liam Cutler and Harry Clarke both took three wickets apiece as the visitors posted 266-8, with Gareth Parsons (94) and Steve Jenkins (66) leading the charge.

Opener Clarke hit 101 whilst Jordan Rose weighed in with 50 but Potterne fell inches short as they were skittled for 260 midway through the final over.

Elsewhere, Goatacre won by 79 runs at Warminster, with Mark Hunt hitting 78 as his side were all out for 184.

The Goatacre bowlers then had their hosts in a spin, Jon Haines (3-34) doing the damage as Warminster were dismissed for 105 in little over 32 overs.

In the Premier One 2nd XI division, Corsham were thrashed by 137 runs at Bath, with the home side posting 237-6 before skittling their Wiltshire visitors for just 100 midway through the 26th over, Jonathan Parker (32) top-scoring for Corsham.

Biddestone lost their top-of-the-table clash in the Glos/Wilts 2nd XI division, with hosts Rockhampton posting 259-5 before they fell well short in their run-chase, only managing to reach 175-8.

Marlborough suffered their first reverse of the season as they lost by seven wickets to Dumbleton, posting 216-8 before their visitors cruised to 218-3, whilst Will Couzens hit a storming unbeaten 158 as Chippenham hammered Winsley.

Steve Silk added 63 as the visitors posted 318-5 before Craig Fry took 5-17 as Winsley were restricted to 134-9.

Burbage remain on the tails of the top two in the Wiltshire Division 2nd XI following their 123-run win over Devizes whilst Marshfield beat Malmesbury by 34 runs.

Great Bedwyn lost to Trowbridge by eight wickets.
