IT IS the Unicorns T20 Cup this weekend and the first time Wiltshire have taken part in it so it will be new for us.

The way that we play, we are quite positive in our outlook for the game, so we will look to go in and try and impose ourselves on Devon.

I have no qualms in saying that I am not a fan of T20 cricket. I am more of a traditionalist, I love the Test matches and the longer form of the game.

There is a place for T20. It is where you can get younger people to watch the sport because there is a bit more excitement with it and it brings money into the game, which is much needed.

However, it is not for me. The razzmatazz of it, I would rather watch the longer form and watch cricket over five days with some decent cricket, like the one we have just seen between England and New Zealand.

I think you can get a lot more out of that, where batsman and bowlers are toiling away for hours on end.

You have got to be a lot more mentally strong in the longer game, whereas in T20 is hit and miss.

It is a lot more difficult to win a Test match than it is a T20. In the shorter form one person could come off and win a game, but in a Test match you need the whole team to win.

It is difficult for us to prepare for the T20, because I don’t see the guys from week to week.

We’ve gone from a 50-over game and straight into a 20-over competition. We’ll just get to Exmouth on Sunday morning and there is not much more we can do.

The boys are playing for their clubs on Saturday and all of them are getting themselves in a bit of form now.

They are playing four or five games of cricket for their club, so in that respect they should be near enough ready for it now.

Then we have got the three-day format so we have got to change and be ready for that as well.

There are a few players in form in the WEPL and I have been keeping an eye on what has been going on with the players within the squad.

I always check how they are doing week in, week out to see if they are still performing and there are a few that have just clicked into form.

There are a couple who have not scored the runs we would expect of them at this point in time, but as we go through the season it only takes something like the T20 for them to find their form.

They are more positive and they go in a try to put bat to ball or bowl a different line or length and sometimes that just helps.
