WARMINSTER skipper Tom Davie was impressed with his side’s attitude as they bounced back from their first defeat of the campaign to beat Gloucester City Winget by 11 runs.

Opening batsman Ankit Shastri (164) set the perfect foundations for the host’s innings as they posted a solid 278-8.

Gloucester fought hard in their reply courtesy of Scott Montgomery’s 123 but fell just shy as Warminster bowled out their visitors for 263 with two balls remaining.

The win sees Warminster remain top of the Glos/Wilts Division and Davie is pleased that the club have put their off the field issues sorted.

“It was a great bounce back from the week before after a disappointing loss,” he said.

“We turned up and realised we didn’t really like losing and put in a good performance against a side who were up near the top as well.

“We won the toss on a tremendous wicket at Warminster and it was one of those wickets where there was a bit in it with the new ball.

“We did well to get through that period, well most players apart from our opener who wacked it all over the place.

“It was a pretty special innings from him and he was well supported in the middle.

“Being critical we should have been looking at a score of over 300 which would have made the second half of the innings a little less interesting.

“The real crucial part of our bowling was Rory Cullinan.

“He is a superstar with the ball, he doesn’t necessarily take the wickets he deserves but he barely goes for 25 runs every week.

“It nearly makes the opposition impossible to chase the total when he restricts you like that.

“I think it is a really positive start for the club but at the end of the day it is only five games and it means nothing at this stage.”
