TROWBRIDGE hauled leaders Marlborough back towards the chasing pack by dispatching the table-toppers by 26 runs last weekend.

Mikey Reynolds’ men, who are third in the table, travelled to the Savernake Forest Ground 19 points adrift of Marlborough, but the gap is now just eight following Saturday’s victory, with second-placed Westbury just two points behind.

Trowbridge batted first after winning the toss and despite their first three wickets falling for 76 runs, Sam Julyan took to the crease and anchored the innings, hitting an unbeaten 81.

Stuart Edginton weighed in with a fine 60 after Tom Weaver had earlier made 36 and despite Will Langton claiming four wickets, Reynolds’ side posted 264-7.

Home captain Arran Dickinson top-scored for his team with 59, whilst James Richardson (36), Ben Head (27), Tom Palmer and Peter Day (both 24) all did their best to fire the league leaders towards their target.

But Trowbridge stemmed the tide, with Reynolds, Weaver and Edginton all taking a pair of wickets apiece as Marlborough fell short on 238-9.

Elsewhere, Westbury decimated near neighbours Winsley in an emphatic 10-wicket whitewash.

Kevin Hendy’s Winsley elected to bat first after winning the toss but they were soon cast into disarray as wickets tumbled.

Tom Walker got the visitors’ best score with 19, whilst Westbury’s Richard Oakley tore through their order and ended the afternoon with figures of 6-32 as Winsley were dismissed for a lowly 77 midway through the 33rd over.

The hosts required little more than 14 overs to cruise to victory, with Richard Mills hitting 40 and Jared McDonald making 29 as they reached 80-0.
