WARMINSTER skipper Tom Davie was left frustrated that his career-best bowling figures weren’t enough to drive his team to victory at Frenchay last weekend.

Davie’s men began Saturday afternoon just two points behind Glos/Wilts Division table-toppers Chippenham but despite their captain claiming a whopping 7-44 in Bristol, Warminster were bested by 67 runs and now find themselves 13 points adrift of new leaders Rockhampton.

And with a crucial trip to Chippenham next on the menu, Davie is hopeful that his team’s defeat can prove little more than a bump in the road in their title quest.

“People were saying ‘congratulations’ and ‘well done’ to me after the game because they were my career-best figures but it means nothing if the team didn’t win,” said the Warminster skipper.

“It was disappointing because it brought our run to an end (Warminster had won three on the trot) and the aim for us is to try and bounce back now.

“We’re not pleased about the result but it’s up to us to try and bounce back in the next game.

“We’ve got a really big one coming up against Chippenham this weekend. They’re one of the sides above us.

“Chippenham has actually been my home for the last 12 months, so it would be really good to get one over on them and get ourselves back on track for the title.”

Hosts Frenchay opted to bat first after winning the toss and Warminster made early inroads with the ball, removing openers Jordan Khan and Mike Donaldson for just 15 runs.

But number three Calum Reid stepped up and anchored the innings with a hefty knock of 140, which included 21 fours.

Eddie Williams (51) and Tyrone Isitt (35) also contributed and all three were eventually claimed by the in-form Davie, with Frenchay skittled for 284 early in the 47th over.

In reply, Warminster were always behind the required run-rate and they were toiling at 54-4 before Pete Hickerton (44) and Mark Coxon-Tenty (67*) bit back.

But Isitt, Muhammed Ahmed and Alex Stell all took three wickets each as the visitors were all out for 217 after 42 overs.
