CAPTAIN Kevin Hendy says that his Winsley side will aim to scrap for every point available after they gave their chances of Wiltshire Division survival a shot in the arm last weekend.

The villagers got back to winning ways and moved off the bottom of the table, two points behind eighth-placed Malmesbury, with a hard-fought 14-run victory over Great Bedwyn.

“We were very happy. We had the efforts of Nick Gerrish and Robbie Cross to thank for us posting a score that we thought was below-par but one we could defend,” said Hendy.

“And then we had to thank 16-year-old Tom Walker for two superb catches.

“We’re 10 points ahead of Calne and two behind Malmesbury now – in a few weeks, those two play each other and I’d love it to be rained off so that they get six points each.

“I’m glad that we’re not playing dead-rubbers at this point of the season. We’ve got four games left and we’ll be aiming to try and get as many bowling points and batting points as we can.”

Winsley elected to bat first after winning the toss and their first four wickets fell for just 42 runs before Nick Gerrish (69) and Robbie Cross (42) came to the fore, with James Neale adding 22 as the hosts were skittled for 203 in little more than 42 overs.

John Palmer (68) spearheaded Great Bedwyn’s run-chase but Winsley’s Kegan Smart piled on the pressure as he claimed 4-43.

Wickets continued to fall, with Neale also helping himself to 3-30 as Bedwyn were dismissed for 189 midway through the 41st over.

Elsewhere, Trowbridge took another step towards the title by notching up their eighth victory in a row.

Mike Reynolds’ side beat Marshfield by 65 runs at the County Ground, with Andrea Agathangelou smacking an unbeaten 114 as the hosts were all out for 244 in the final over of their innings.

James Williams hit 77 in reply but Trowbridge’s Sam Julyan took 4-30 as Marshfield were skittled for 179 in the 47th over.

Westbury suffered a hiccup as they lost by 18 runs at Malmesbury.

The hosts were dismissed for 180, Tom Lucas taking 4-44, but saw off Alex Senneck’s men for just 162.
