TOM Davie believes that Warminster will win the title if they triumph in the final three games of the season.

Warminster kept themselves in the race for honours with a 56-run success over second-placed Rockhampton on Saturday, and although they remain third, they are just 10 points off leaders Chippenham.

The top two still have to meet again before the summer is out and Davie wants his team to capitalise on and dropped points with an unbeaten end to the campaign.

“We talked about the Rockhampton game being our last chance, it was like a cup final for us,” said Davie.

“We had to win it to give ourselves any chance of winning the league so I was delighted with the performance.

“We know where we have been disappointing in certain games and it would be lovely to be top but coming from behind means expectations are lower.

“Sometimes it’s better to be in this position, the other teams are under more pressure.

“There are three games left and if we win them all I think we will win the league, that’s what I am telling the lads.”

Warminster won the toss and elected to bat, with everyone making a contribution.

Openers Ankit Shastri (20) and Davie (32) set the tone before Brandon Ward (43), Desmond Kruger (56) and Peter Hickerton (63) continued that good work to help them post 261-6.

Matt Tyler (54) tried to lead a Rockhampton reply but Rory Cullinan (4-31) and Davie (4-46) had the visitors in all sorts of trouble.

Only William Tyler (36) and Jack Spence (42) offered any further resistance as they were dismissed for 205.

Davie added: “Myself and Rory are best of mates but we’re in competition too.

“He’s the bowler in the team and I’m just a guy who turns my arm over but I like to remind him I’m catching him up in terms of wickets.”
