IF THERE was any doubt left over Mike Reynolds’ decision to stick with his boyhood club for the long haul, then the Trowbridge captain is certain they’ve been put to bed by his side’s Wiltshire Division title triumph.

In recent years, Trowbridge have tumbled down the divisions and came close to being relegated from the West of England Premier League completely last term but last weekend, a 90-run triumph at Purton sealed the championship crown for Reynolds’ men.

After a season which has left the victorious Trowbridge skipper ‘gobsmacked’, Reynolds is hoping that the only way is now up for his triumphant troops.

“People haven’t heard much about my dad Dave Reynolds, who has come in for his first season as coach this year. He used to play for Corsham and has talked to me about moving there but I said ‘no, I want to stick with Trowbridge’,” said the 21-year-old County Ground captain.

“People have tried to get me to other clubs in the past but I’ve played at Trowbridge all my life, probably since I was about 10.

“Five years ago, the club was in turmoil and where we’ve got to now is an amazing achievement – I’m gobsmacked.

“To stay and go through all that, and then come through it all to win the league is unbelievable. “Last season, we won five games all season. We’ve won 14 now and we’ve got one more game to go. We could end up winning 15 and that’s three times as many games as last year, which is amazing.

“In previous years, there have been people that haven’t always agreed with the captain and have wanted to do their own thing but all of the lads have been behind me this year.

“At different times throughout the season, different people have stepped up, and if we all stick together, then I think we’ll only get stronger as cricketers and stronger as mates.”

Elsewhere, Westbury secured the runners-up spot with victory over Marshfield.
Captain Alex Senneck (68) and Jared McDonald (43) helped them post 175-8 before Andy Carroll claimed 3-37 as Marshfield were dismissed for 169.

Winsley remain in danger of the drop despite a six-wicket win at Marlborough.
Kevin Hendy’s men bowled out their hosts for 130 in 42 overs, Kegan Smart taking 4-12, before Alain Hewett (46) drove them to 131-4.
