FIVE Warminster batsmen were dismissed for ducks as their season got off to a disastrous start with an eight-wicket defeat at home to Rockhampton.

Jack Berrisford (34) and David Bateman (48) were the only home players to reach double figures as they were bowled out for a lowly 110.

Skipper Tom Davie, Peter Hickman, Nathan Bond, Nick Hembury and John Powell all failed to trouble the scores in the face of some fierce bowling from Rockhampton, led by Chris Hancox (3-20).

An unlikely fightback looked on the cards as Warminster’s Rory Cullinan took two early wickets but it did not last long as Rowan Cartlidge (58 not out) and Matt Tyler (34 not out) saw the visitors home.

There was also a heavy opening day defeat for Chippenham as they went down by 181 runs at home to Lechlade.

Brad Dial hit 112 and Joe Breet added 83 as Lechlade posted 335-3 before Liam Smith (5-34) helped bowl Chippenham out for154 in reply.
