WILTSHIRE'S Women claimed a huge win away to Buckinghamshire on Sunday.

The county recorded their first away win in the County Championship since August 2013, chasing down more than 200 runs with eight overs to go to put themselves right back in the race for the Division Four championship.

Bowling first and despite taking the early wicket of opener Louise Verroken-Jones, Wiltshire found wickets hard to come by as ex-Wiltshire player Jan Godman set her stall out to play through the entire innings.

Supported by Sue Benson, they added an unbroken 173 for the second wicket.

The visiting bowlers delivered excellent figures for the 50 over competition, with the pick being Biddestone’s Lucy Farrant, who conceded only 20 runs from her 10 overs.

Wiltshire went for the win right from the start of their reply, Elizabeth Bools and Emily Wakeling adding 44 for the first wicket in 13 overs.

Runs flowed down the order, with another key partnership of 44 for the third wicket coming from Cath Amore and Jemma Beetham.

The game was still in the balance at drinks with Wiltshire needing 63 to win.

But Spye Park CC’s Vickie Hathway made light work of the target scoring 46 runs from just 31 balls to take the team to victory.

Wiltshire next play local rivals Dorset on May 29 at Steeple Langford CC, hoping to maintain their momentum at their favourite ground in the county, having never previously lost there in three matches.
