I WASN’T there on Sunday but I was getting messages from the guys and it looked like a tight game against Buckinghamshire.

Again we have done our normal thing, which is to bat well against the seamers early on and then the spinners have come on and we have struggled again, which is a little bit of a worry for us.

It is madness because one game we seem to be great against the spinners and then the next we seem to be awful.

Hopefully, when we get to the quarter-finals against Dorset we play the spinners well again.

We try to replicate playing against spin indoors when we do our training inside in the winter months but then I have got five or six of the guys who aren’t there because they are playing cricket abroad.

Also it’s quite difficult to replicate the pressure you are under when you are out in the middle.

We don’t get any chance during the season to practise and we rely on the players themselves to go away and work on things at their club.

We played extremely well against the spin up at Bedfordshire a couple of weeks ago but up against Hertfordshire and against Buckinghamshire, we have done the same thing.

We are just really pleased to have got through to the quarter-finals because we missed out last year on run-rate and we have got an away tie against Dorset that we are looking forward to.

We had a friendly against Dorset this year and had three games last season against them and have enjoyed the lion’s share of the results.

It’s a game we go into full of confidence and hope to win.

Meanwhile, former Wiltshire player Tom Alsop got his maiden first-class half century playing for Hampshire this week, which is great for him.

He is an outstanding talent for his age. We saw it a couple of years ago for us and we wanted him to play more but it was difficult for him when he was contracted to Hampshire.
