WILTSHIRE Women’s unbeaten run at Steeple Langford came to an exciting but ultimately disappointing end against Dorset this weekend.

Feeling confident in their ability to put pressure on Dorset in the first innings, captain Lucy Wood was more than happy to put the visitors into bat.

With the score at 50-1 at the first drinks break and then 124-5 at the second break, the plan looked to be a good one for the home side.

However, Wiltshire had not reckoned on Becky Yeo producing a county best for Dorset as her maiden Championship ton added 120 runs in just 90 balls to pushed the Dorset score to 207.

The Wiltshire reply was a slow burner, with only 19 runs coming from the first ten overs. However, the failure to take wickets put pressure on Dorset and the hosts brought up the 100 without loss, although Katherine Mills soon fell four short of a half-century.

With 100 needed off the final 20 overs, the game was in the balance. With Elizabeth Bools still at the crease, the team built the remainder of the innings around her.

However, when Bools was caught, the remaining batters were unable to push the score on. Despite going close, the Dorset total was just out of their reach and they finished 14 runs short.
