THERE was no raining on Mike Reynolds’ parade after his Trowbridge side ‘ticked all the boxes’ in their victory over Swindon last weekend.

After being left kicking their heels when their derby clash with Westbury was rained off on May 21, Trowbridge were back in action at the County Ground and ran out 44-run winners to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Reynolds was left beaming by solid contributions across the board from his troops and is daring to dream that, after winning the Wiltshire Division crown last term, his troops are laying the foundations for another title tilt.

“In our last game against Great Bedwyn (on April 14), we didn’t bowl particularly well and gave away too many extras, which mostly came from myself, but on Saturday, we ticked all the boxes,” said the Trowbridge captain.

“It was a very satisfying win. Brendan (Louw) got 69 and John Carroll got his first half-century of the season at an important time – we were at 131-5.

“Then, after a shaky start from myself and Luke (Seymour), Scott Mitchell, Brendan and Tom Weaver all batted extremely well.

“We’ve got another big game against Marshfield this weekend but after some very tough matches in the first few weeks, to be 3-0 is very good.

“All three of the teams at Trowbridge have made good starts to the season, so things seem to be going well at the club at the moment, and that’s nice to see, especially when you think about the state things were in five years ago.

“We’ve made a good start and if we can keep going like this, I can’t see any reason why we can’t go for the title again.”

After Trowbridge’s first three wickets fell for 81, overseas man Louw added some impetus to the innings with a knock of 69 and then, when Swindon’s Alex Kill dismissed both Tom Weaver and Ryan Pieterson, John Carroll’s 59 from 45 deliveries got the hosts back on track.

They went on to post 240-9 before putting the squeeze on their opponents with the ball, with Kill top-scoring with just 35.

Louw (3-29) and Scott Mitchell (3-41) led the way for Trowbridge and Swindon’s resistance came to an end with an over-and-a-half to spare when they were skittled for 196.

Elsewhere, Westbury got back to winnings ways with a nine-run triumph on the road at Marlborough.

Batting first after winning the toss, Jared McDonald (83), Daniel Gibbs (55 not out) and Richard Mills (48) fired Alex Senneck’s men to 208-2.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals during Marlborough’s run-chase, except for that of number three Zwelibanzi Homani, who stuck around and carded an unbeaten 110 as his side fell short on 199-9.
