ROYAL Wootton Bassett remained at the head of affairs in Division One of the Wadworth 6X Wiltshire League as Zimbabwean ace Tendai Maruma’s century guided them to a 10-wicket triumph over Corsham 2nd on Saturday.

Three wickets each from Daniel Batchelor (3-36) and Jubedur Rahman (3-16) ensured Corsham’s innings was halted in the 44th over on 174, Andy Davis hitting 64 and Charley Reed 49.

Bassett’s openers were untroubled in the reply, Maruma striking 103 not out, with Sam Lawro similarly intact on 55.

Bear Flat continued their pursuit of the leaders as they put Nationwide to the sword by 63 runs.

Himanshu Suri (3-34) and Stuart Archer (3-35) helped House to restrict Flat to 198-9 as Rob Wilson scored 48 and Mike Smythe (40) anchored the innings.

However, the reply came up well short and was finished by the 37th over, Jon Clarke scoring 47 runs but Josh Parkyn taking 4-28 to leave House stranded on 135.

John Page (54) hit a half-century in Box’s 161 all out against third-placed Lacock, John Wiltshire taking 4-19 and Leigh Rogers 3-41.

Phil Steans' unbeaten 48 guided Lacock to their target in the 42nd over, despite Richard Foley’s 3-33.

Division Two

SWINDON United Churches recorded their first victory of the season against Beanacre & Melksham on Saturday – owing largely to a mammoth 207-run second-wicket partnership between Chris Gilchrist (126 from 82 balls) and Daniel Hunt (85 from 110).

Gilchrist struck 13 fours and four sixes, whereas Hunt only scored 16 runs in boundaries but Churches’ middle order collapsed in the face of disciplined bowling from Andy Footner (5-29) and Roy Veacock (3-61), and they finished on 287-9.

The Churches bowlers did the damage early after tea, captain Richard Martin (3-20) helping to reduce Beanacre & Melksham to 41-4.

Number six Chris Singh batted aggressively to post 65 and received good support from number eight Abi Footner (17 not out) but Beanacre & Melksham were all out for 166.

Churches fell to a 69-run defeat against Swindon NALGO in their second match of the weekend on Sunday.

Chris Gilchrist (3-32) and debutant off-spinner Edwin Hodgson (4-33) shone for Churches as Nalgo reached 196 all out, with Matif Raja scoring 50.

Hunt (44 from 98 balls) and Matt Runkel (20 from 25 balls) started well in reply and Churches were 99-3 at the midway point of the chase but succumbed to 128 all out as Sanjay Chauhan (3-10) and Sarfraz Khan (3-32) put the squeeze on.

Winsley lead the division and maintained their unbeaten start with a seven-wicket success against Avebury.

Henry Fry (65) and Wes Hartslief (37) saw Avebury to 203 all out as the innings concluded with five balls remaining, Luke Wright taking 3-29.

But a knock of 83 from John Keepen and an unbeaten 43 from Nick Gerrish helped Winsley gallop past the target in the 34th over.

Second-placed Biddestone 2nd were also seven-wicket victors, Bradford on Avon the victims after being bowled out for 131.

Mark Unwin took 4-11 and Phil Knight 3-16 for Biddestone, before Luke Panes (57 not out) and Aled Evans (35 not out) guided them home in 40 overs.

Division Three

KEEVIL continued their pursuit of leaders Bath Hospitals as Guy Perritt’s 77 sent them on the way to 203-9 against Heytesbury & Sutton Veny, Andy Hallett contributing 44.

Justin Wagstaff took 4-37 for Heytesbury, whose reply was stopped at 155 in the 43rd over.

Paul Clark hit 87 and Mark Colyer an unbeaten 59 to guide Potterne 3rd to a four-wicket success over Wroughton Wranglers – their first victory of the season.

Mark McMeeking hit 75 of Wroughton’s 225-5 in their 45 overs, but Potterne got home with two balls to spare.

Division Four

GOATACRE 2nd maintained their 100 per cent record with a 73-run win at Spye Park.

Goatacre were in trouble at 91-6 but recovered to 233-7 thanks to 54 from Sam Parish and 88 not out from number eight Matt Wilkins before Spye were bowled out for 160, despite 97 from captain Elliott Townsend.

Craig Gibbens took 3-15 in nine overs for the victors.

Matt Tilley hit 109 and Richard Mansell 50 as All Cannings amassed 273-5 against Buscot Park, whose reply was curtailed at 98 in the 31st over as Ryan Simons took 3-34 to ensure a 175-run triumph.

Rob Atkinson’s 78 helped Marlborough 2nd to a winning 261-9 against Wanborough, Vital Guntaka adding 57 and Raghu Tupurani 41 in a 78-run triumph as Wanborough finished on 183-8.

Division Five

BLUNSDON batted first against Biddestone 3rd and scored 161 all out in 36.4 overs, James Mundy hitting 55 and Dave Bott 32 as Joshua Boulton took 5-17.

In reply, Biddestone were all out for 111 off 27.4 overs, Chris Casey scoring 49 while Dave Bott took 4-15 and Arul Ramasamy 3-22 in a 50-run success.

Goatacre 3rd bounced back from consecutive defeats to beat Beckington 2nd by 75 runs.

Jon Haines top-scored with 67 not out in their total of 229-5 while Ferdie Van Der Merwe provided useful support with 52. In reply, Beckington were bowled out for 154, with Barry Garland taking 3-20. Combe Down maintained their momentum with a convincing victory over Nationwide House.

Asked to bat first, the hosts produced a 109-run opening partnership between Simon Elliman (95) and Tom Hulbert (73), and a further 74-run partnership for the second wicket was the foundation for an imposing 249-5.

Nationwide House’s reply began promisingly with a 51-run partnership for the opening wicket, but few were able to resist a first-change spin attack of Rajat Dhir (4-30) and Simon Elliman (3-21).

The innings faltered to 158 all out in the 42nd over, opener Vikas Sidhu with 43.

Division Six

ROYAL Wootton Bassett 3rd took over at the top of the table after a 61-run win over Hinton Charterhouse 2nd.

Bassett’s 169 all out was centred around a score of 47 for Morgan Marsh-Ballard as Dave Griffin (27) and Mike Tyrie (24) also contributed.

Matt Botham’s 2-11 and 3-16 from Sam Kingsbury restricted Hinton to 108 all out.

Dom O’Neill’s delivered 5-2 in seven overs as Swindon B kept Heytesbury & Sutton Veny 2nd to 148 all out in their clash, before Kurtis Marsden’s 78 guided them to a three-wicket victory.

Division Seven

PURTON 2nd stayed out in front as Deepak Ramani took 5-13 in their six-wicket success over Burbage & Easton Royal 2nd.

Burbage were dismissed for 154 in the 40th over and Neil Little’s 68 not out got Purton home in the 37th.

Thomas Stone smashed an unbeaten 114 for Great Bedwyn 2nd as they amassed 242-9 against their Calne counterparts, Jack Smith weighing in with 57 as Chris Edes took 3-19.

Matt Galbraith (3-33) and Smith (3-21) did the damage as Calne were all out for 120 to secured a 122-run win.

Division Eight

WARMINSTER 3rd leapfrogged Lacock 2nd at the top of the table as they saw off Swindon NALGO 2nd by 132-runs.

Graham Ashman scored 73 of their 253-7 before Stewart Lisowski took 3-30 and Graham Cuthbertson 3-12 to restrict Nalgo to 121 all out.

Lacock also won, Matt Loft’s 70 and 45 from Joe Foley helping them to 190-8 against Box 2nd as Ian Doyle took 4-27.

James Harding’s 3-41 came courtesy of a hat-trick as Box’s reply ended on 169-9, despite 49 from David Mullins.

Division Nine

WESTBURY 3rd won the toss and batted against Biddestone 4th, scoring 232-8 off 45 overs as Jake Andrews (90) and Adam Pothecary (61) shared a second-wicket partnership of 140 runs.

Heath Turck took 3-66 for Biddestone, who came up short on 212-9, despite 45 from Ryan Berry as Westbury won by 20 runs.

Greg Smith struck 44 in leaders Chippenham 4th’s 183-8 against Wanborough 2nd before Joe Neale took 4-4 in five overs to dismiss Wanborough for 102.
