MIKE Reynolds hopes that team-mate Scott Mitchell is enjoying a deserved spell in the spotlight after he starred for Trowbridge for the second time in eight days.

Mitchell romped to an impressive six-wicket haul in Trowbridge’s 106-run win at Marshfield on June 4 and then on Saturday, the bowler repeated the trick by claiming 6-32 as his side wiped the floor with Calne at the County Ground.

Skipper Reynolds was impressed with all aspects of Trowbridge’s display against Calne but singled club captain Mitchell out for special praise.

“He’s a bit of an unsung hero at our club. He does so much work off the pitch – and on the pitch too because he helps the groundsman roll the wicket in his spare time,” said Reynolds.

“He’s also come on a lot as a cricketer over the last few years and it’s nice to see him playing so well.

“Getting a six-for last week and then doing it again; 12 wickets in two weeks is really good.

“It might not look like it from the stats but Sammy (Sam Julyan) hit an unbeaten 40 in a really tricky situation and it was nice to see Ryan Pieterson get a good 30 too – I’ve got a fractured thumb, so he batted in my place as an opener.

“We bowled and fielded well too. We’re confident, we’re 5-0 and we can’t wait for next week.”

Trowbridge put their visitors in to bat first and, inspired by Mitchell, they claimed wickets at regular intervals, with Calne’s first five falling for just 100 runs.

Stuart Windsor top-scored with 41 whilst Tom Nott (19) and Tom Richards (18) added the next-best resistance, with the visitors falling 140 late in the 42nd over.

In reply, openers Tom Oakley and Pieterson made 39 and 33 respectively before Julyan guided Trowbridge home with an unbeaten knock of 42 to lead them to 143-2 in 25 overs.

Elsewhere, Westbury were unable to do their rivals a favour as they fell to a home defeat at the hands of second-placed Marshfield.

After winning the toss, Alex Senneck’s men opted to bat first and number two Jared McDonald got them on their way with a total of 73 whilst Dan Gill also weighed in with 58 as Westbury posted 223-5.

But Marshfield’s Nic Badings took the game to Westbury by smashing an unbeaten 110, guiding the hosts to 224-4 with less than two overs to spare.
