MIKE Reynolds led from the front as Trowbridge maintained their flawless season so far with a comfortable six-wicket victory at Malmesbury last weekend.

Reynolds took five wickets as his team put their hosts through the wringer at The Worthys to keep themselves sitting pretty at the top of WEPL Wiltshire, with Trowbridge registering their sixth victory in seven games, a cancellation against near neighbours Westbury on May 21 the only match that they did not win.

Trowbridge won the toss and turned the screw from the off, with Reynolds claiming the wicket of James Gillespie for a royal duck - out to the first ball of the match.

The Trowbridge captain also accounted for fellow Malmesbury opener George Royle (11), Michael Collison (13), Jack Ward (0) and Fin Beldon (5) on his way to figures of 5-50.

The hosts’ James Pearce-Smith top-scored for his team with an unbeaten knock of 56 but, not to be upstaged by his skipper, in-form bowler Scott Mitchell continued his recent hot streak by claiming 3-37 – he has taken 18 wickets in his last four matches.

Malmesbury were restricted to 188-9 and the visitors took full advantage of their reachable target, despite opener Tom Oakley falling to Josh Langley for a duck.

Ryan Pieterson was the driving force behind his side’s innings as he hit 94 from 80 deliveries whilst Brendon Louw scored an unbeaten 64 to guide the visitors to 190-4 in little more than 32 overs.

Elsewhere, Westbury’s clash with Calne was rained off after less than 20 overs of play.
