SOMETIMES you go through these transitional stages – we’ve done it before – and I think that we’re going through one again right now.

A few years ago, we almost went a couple of seasons without winning a game and it’s a tough thing to go through but it’s something that you have to do sometimes.

One thing that we’re looking to do between now and the end of the season is blood players.

There are a few that are coming through that don’t have much experience of three-day cricket and there’s only one way to make sure that they get that, so that’s what we’ll be doing.

One of those players is Will Wade and I have to say that I was so chuffed for him after the game against Devon.

For a young lad of 17, he came in to the squad for his debut and did so well to get that great score – he’s not been in the best of form this season but we thought it was the right time to put him in, and we’re glad that we did.

We may have lost the game but Devon is never an easy place to go and it was quite a respectable performance given the lack of experience we had in our side.

We were dealt a few blows going in to it with the players that we had missing but on the bowling side of things, we weren’t looking to bad, although we were obviously missing Tahir (Afridi).

There were still some very good performances in there and a things that we can take out of the game – Joe King ran Will close for man of the match with the eight wickets that he took and Jake Lintott also got six wickets as well.

It’s been decided that Ed Young will be the captain for the remainder of the games this season but he wasn’t there this week, so Ashur Morrison took charge.

Ed wanted him to be his vice-captain –Ash has plenty of experience of captaining after doing it for a season-and-a-half at Corsham and he did very well with the decisions that he had to make.
